Jake Harper

I am a journalist and podcast producer. I helped launch the health reporting collaborative Side Effects Public Media at WFYI and I created a show Sick, which was named one of the best podcasts of the year by The Atlantic and has been downloaded millions of times. I’ve also worked on numerous projects as a freelancer, and my reporting on Medicaid, prisons and addiction has appeared on NPR, Kaiser Health News, Latino USA and the Washington Post. Currently, I make the podcast Unhedged for Pushkin and the Financial Times.

In my spare time, I take ceramics classes, make pizza, write stand-up material and take long, aimless walks around New York.

• I earned a national championship ring when I was in high school . . . for marching band.
